LINEN LUX by MOL @ Paris Déco Off ~ 17-22 January 2013

Each year, both riverbanks of the Seine are united by Paris Déco Off and more than 60 participating designers. This has become an event not to miss, opening a world of decor by presenting new collections of interior textiles, trimming, lighting, furniture and other deco materials to its visitors.

This amazing route of deco treasures really comes to life for two very short nights, giving the visitors a chance to enjoy a nightly stroll along and inside these beautiful showrooms. It is an incredible way to discover new trends and be inspired by new styles.

Joining Masters of Linen, Libeco-Lagae and other partners participated to give this event and especially the nocturnes an extra spark.

“Rue du Mail,” a main street housing different designer stores on the right bank was the main stage for LINEN LUX. 62 XXXL-sized linen lanterns were hung all over the street, creating a beautiful and impressive spectacle of light and color.

The event was a special decoration initiative that didn’t go unnoticed! Of the several conversations we overheard, not one was negative! That’s why we wanted to share this breathtaking scene with you, and see what you think!

These images and reactions can also be found on the Masters of Linen blog.

The making of a collection, January 2013

While staring at a snowy landscape outside we are already thinking of summer…

Why do you ask? Well, we are launching our Summer Collection! At Maison & Objet we are introducing it as we speak and we decided to give all of you a special preview of the collection. We will take you inside the creative process and submerge you in our summer spirit!

All big things have to start small. This is no different for our collection, out of a few words, images are formed and the atmosphere is set. The new Libeco Home summer collection conjures up images of summer and beautiful holiday destinations.

You can start to feel our summer spirit in the images below…

Summer 2013 Linen Inspiration

The Surfers Stripe

Teasing Georgia

Feminello Limoncello

We hope you are in the summer mood already, because after this, it’s time to go to the drawing board. At this time our designers start combining colors, drawing checks and stripes and imagining a new collection.

Here at Libeco this process still happens the old-fashioned way – here’s a glimpse at some of the design work…

After the weaving of initial yardage and the making of lots of samples the collection begins to take shape.  When the designers see all of these samples and original inspiration together, the themes are born.

And finally the photos are made - you can have a sneak peek below…

Surfing Mavericks Theme

Surfing Mavericks
A simple and strong collection inspired by vintage surfboards and named after Mavericks, a famous surfing spot in California. This collection reflects the perfect rhythm of a simple design. Collections under this theme represent a carefree, relaxed mood.

Feminello Limoncello Theme

Feminello Limoncello
Inspired by the summery American Lemonade Stand and named after the Italian ‘Feminello St Teresa’ lemon, traditionally used to make Limoncello. The colours and designs in this collection, with their vintage feel, take us back to days gone by.

Teasing Georgia Theme

Teasing Georgia
Named after a delightful climbing rose often seen in charming English gardens. This collection can be combined endlessly with the rest of the collection, but also looks good by itself.

The Bowl & Board Set includes a handmade Ed Wohl cutting board and a Belgian linen Vero tea towel from Libeco

We love when our deep serving bowl meets an Ed Wohl cutting board. The exposed clay bottom of the bowl pairs nicely with the marble-like smoothness of the board. Add to that a 100% Belgian Linen Vero Tea Towel from Libeco, contemporary in design and colorful with varying stripes of black, apricot and light turquoise blue. About this Season: Matte orange hues of California Poppy and Grapefruit saturate both classic Heath shapes and new designs. These vibrant glazes pair with our traditional Birch glaze and are also are highlighted in some pieces juxtaposed with our exposed clay body. A range of techniques gives each piece a fresh, new context for summer.

Fact about Linen

Why is linen so popular in the south and in hot climates?

Given a reasonable amount of care, quality linen will last a lifetime and can be passed from generation to generation.
With a minimum amount of proper care, the natural beauty of linen is easily maintained.
Linen is the strongest natural fiber known to man; it’s twice as strong as cotton and three times as strong as wool.
The strength also increases with 20% on wetting. When linen fabrics are in contact with the skin, it absorbs perspiration.
It can absorb up to 20% of its own weight in moisture while still feeling dry to the touch!
Then it releases the moisture to the outside air. It basically functions as a self-cooler.
This is the main reason why people choose to use linen for bedding in hot climates. The second reason would be that the fabric always feels fresh and cool.
